The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that the team has signed right wing Ryan Fultz and defensemen Kyryll Katrych and A.J. Bozoian and that defenseman Jay Holladay and center Travis Granbois have been released. Per Mallards team policy contract terms for Fultz, Katrych and Bozoian were not disclosed.
Both Fultz and Katrych skated with the Mallards in preseason. The 31-year old Fultz returns to pro hockey after not playing the last two full seasons. Prior to this season, the Rochester, Michigan, native last took to the ice with the Florida Seals of the Southern Professional Hockey League, for whom he collected six points in five games in 2006-07. Fultz has spent the bulk of his seven-plus year pro career in the ECHL. He split his last full season- 2005-06- between the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators and Charlotte Checkers, scoring 16 goals and notching 39 points in 46 games.
In 285 career games with the ECHL’s Gladiators, Checkers, New Orleans Brass, Arkansas RiverBlades, Greensboro Generals, Lexington Men O’War and Texas Wildcatters; the West
Coast Hockey League’s San Diego Gulls; and the SPHL’s Seals, the 6’ 0”, 210-pound Fultz has piled up 83 goals and 206 points.
Fultz spent a season and a half at Bowling Green, recording 22 goals and 41 points in 52 collegiate games, before jumping to the Brass in midway through the 2000-01 campaign.
Katrych, 25, started the regular season with the All American Hockey League’s Chicago Blaze, for whom he picked up one assist in six games. Last year the Ukrainian had six goals and 26 points in 33 games with the Battle Creek Revolution of the AAHL. The 2008-09 campaign was Katrych’s first in North America. The 5’ 10”, 161-pound blue liner played in his homeland for Sokol Kiev before making the trip across the Atlantic. Katrych represented his country as a 19-year old at the 2004 World Junior Championship.
Bozoian, 27, is in his fifth pro season. The Brownstown, Michigan, product split last season between the Flint Generals and Bloomington PrairieThunder, scoring seven goals and recording 24 points while playing a total of 64 games. In all, Bozoian has played for eight teams- Flint, Bloomington, Columbia, Corpus Christi, Fort Wayne, Jacksonville and Motor City- in five leagues- IHL, ECHL, Central Hockey League, United Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League- over the course of his career. The 5’ 11”, 190-pound blue liner competed against the UHL Mallards while skating for the Fort Wayne Komets in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and- briefly- for the Motor City Mechanics in 2005-06.
Holladay skated in five of the Mallards’ first six games without recording a point. Granbois played in three games for the Mallards after the Flock acquired his rights in a trade with Bloomington earlier this month.
The Mallards play road games Friday in Fort Wayne and Saturday in Bloomington before returning home for a rematch with Bloomington Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive a free Mallards official game puck courtesy of Major League Texting.
