Mascot Mo Mallard took time out from his busy schedule to take part in the fun at the Ridgewood Elementary Jog-A-Thon at the Soule Bowl in East Moline on Friday.

The entire Ridgewood student body converged on Soule Bowl to raise funds for SMARTboards and to have fun while being active.

About 400 students in grades K-4 had half an hour per grade to see how many laps they could complete around the track. Students collected pledges based on laps run. The goal is to raise $6,000 towards the purchase of SMARTboards, interactive whiteboards that combine the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer.

The jog-a-thon began in 2010 as a way to promote physical activity and give every student an opportunity to participate in a fundraiser. A carnival and field day were held along with the jog-a-thon.
